1326: SO WHERE ARE THE CUFFS?

Dear Mr. Sulak:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the defunding and repeal of Obamacare, as well as federal firearms policy.  I know how passionately Texans feel about these issues, and I appreciate the benefit of your comments.

All Americans should be exempt from the onerous and costly provisions of Obamacare and the best way to do this is to repeal and defund the law in its entirety.

Texans continue to share with me real-life examples of how this law is hurting businesses, killing jobs, and burdening individuals with costlier premiums.  Obamacare spends $2.6 trillion over a ten year period.  Additionally, it raises taxes by more than a trillion dollars over the next decade negatively impacting job growth and the economy.  These taxes include a substantially higher Medicare payroll tax, which could harm small businesses, and new taxes on medical treatments, which will ultimately mean higher costs for patients.  Furthermore, Obamacare will cut more than half a trillion dollars from the nearly-bankrupt Medicare program to create unsustainable new entitlement programs.

All Americans should receive relief from this law.  To this end, I am proud to cosponsor the Obamacare Repeal Act (S. 177), which would repeal the health care reform law, as well as the Defund Obamacare Act of 2013 (S. 1292), which would prohibit funding of Obamacare.  Additionally, I introduced the Keep the IRS Off Your Health Care Act (S. 983), which would prohibit the Secretary of the Treasury from enforcing Obamacare, and the Protecting Seniors’ Access to Medicare Act (S. 351), which would repeal the Obamacare Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB).  In total, I have introduced or cosponsored 27 bills to repeal or defund Obamacare.

I was pleased when the House of Representatives listened to the American people and sent the Senate a Continuing Resolution (CR) that defunded Obamacare.  However, Democrats ignored the pleas of the American people and stripped the language that defunded Obamacare.  House Republicans continued to send reasonable packages to the Senate that would have funded the government but provided relief for Americans from this law, including bills that would have delayed Obamacare for a year, permanently repealed the Medical Device Tax, delayed Obamacare’s individual mandate, and required that Congressional members and staff live under the same rules as the American people.  I was disappointed that Senate Democrats rejected these reasonable compromises, and I voted against the final Senate CR that included funding for Obamacare.

At every opportunity to defund or repeal the law, I have voted in favor of doing so, and I will not waver in my opposition to this law.  To read further about my efforts, please visit my website at:

Secondly, as a strong proponent of the Second Amendment, I believe it is essential to safeguard the law-abiding citizen's constitutional right to own and use firearms designed for legitimate purposes such as hunting, target shooting, collecting, and self-protection.  Restricting this right runs counter to the intent of our Founding Fathers, who expressly guaranteed that citizens would retain the right to keep and bear arms.

It is encouraging that the Supreme Court has upheld the will of our Founders and re-affirmed the ideals our country was established upon.  The Supreme Court's decision in District of Columbia v. Heller provides a greater guarantee that Americans' Constitutional rights remain secure from federal government intrusion.  I was proud to sign an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in that case stating an individual’s right to bear arms is fundamental.  This historic ruling continues to have implications far beyond the District of Columbia.  In 2010, the Supreme Court decided in McDonald v. City of Chicago to strike down the arbitrary gun ban in Chicago and thereby affirm that the Second Amendment safeguards against state and local encroachments on the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.

As a former Texas Supreme Court Justice and Attorney General, I have firsthand knowledge of crime-fighting policies that work, and I believe that citizens' Second Amendment rights should not be restricted because of the actions of criminals.  Rather, we must focus our attention on the source of violent crime: criminals who use firearms to commit crimes.  I believe that strictly enforcing the law and meting out tougher sentences for career criminals and those who use firearms when committing crimes will reduce crime more effectively than gun or equipment bans, which primarily serve to take firearms away from law-abiding citizens.

I appreciate the opportunity to represent the interests of Texans in the United States Senate.  Thank you for taking the time to contact me.

Sincerely,
JOHN CORNYN

VERY IMPORTANT FOOT NOTE:

Well folks, as of today the justice system in America is still very corrupt. As of this writing Barrack Hussein Obama, Eric Holder, Hillary Clinton, Diane Feinstein and a whole host of other corrupt politicians are still unjustly walking free after committing repeated crimes against America and Americans, including murder!

You lil' punk, Barry Hussein, you insignificant lil' flea, you cannot defeat me! I am backed by a fella, who had spikes driven in both hands and feet, then he was hung on timbers and the only thing holding him up were those spikes, then he was stabbed and given up for dead, then he was entombed, then he walked out of that tomb and ascended up into the sky and after all of that he still lives today! Yes, this is my backing! What's yours? George Soros? I am laughing whole-heartily right now! How small you really are you lil' arrogant imposter! Oh yeah, and if you think this fella backing me is something, I just can't wait 'til you meet his father! Good luck, you're gonna need it!

******** "Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian." --- Henry Ford

******** In today's backward world, RACISM IS when American taxpayer's work their butts off every day and complain because they have to pay for people, who are too damn lazy and/or illegal, about getting free healthcare, free cell phones, free housing, free food, free baby sitters, free school, free electricity, free water, free cars, free air conditioning and a whole host of other freebies! This used to be called, "pointing out injustice", but not in Obama's world! In his world, it is RACISM!

FOLKS I'D BE REMISS IN MY DUTIES, AS A PATRIOT, IF I DID NOT TELL YOU, that Obama must instill his grand goal of breaking America before liberals (his base) become wise to his plans to hurt them also. The time is getting close and, if you are not a survivor, you had better grab someone who is. Even some Democrats are beginning to scream "martial law". It is coming and patriots have been telling you this for years. - John L Sulak - 10/9/2013
