Bernard Lawrence "Bernie" Madoff, now why on earth, did that ol' boy go to prison? Am I weird for asking that? Probably. Is there any reason I think that he should not have gone to prison? No. Do I think justice was carried out properly? Well yes, but only about half way.
Let me explain it this way. First, let's look at why he went to prison. Of course, his scheme was an elaborate one, so I won't go into detail, but I believe it can be explained very simply. You see, Ol’ Bernard, talked people into investing with him, so he could, intern, re-invest their money in very profitable ventures, and he was dang good at it. He never FORCED anyone to do anything. They voluntarily gave him their money. “So what was wrong with that?” you might ask. Well actually, there was nothing wrong with it, nothing at all, except for one huge minor detail! Bernie, forgot to
invest their money. It just slipped the ol’ boy’s mind! However, he must of liked it because, as time rolled on, he simply kept taking the money from new investors to pay off the old investors, with a lil’ “grease” left over for him, of course. Finally, there were too many old investors and not enough money from new investors coming in to keep the payments going.

Next thing you know, ol’ cute and cuddly, Bernie Madoff is one of the most hated men in America and he is off to jail. Bernard Madoff did to his investors what the government has been doing to us for over 70 years within Social Security. There is no meaningful difference between the two schemes except, one was operated by a private individual, who is now in jail, and the other is operated by politicians, who enjoy perks, privileges and elite status, in spite of their illegal actions.
Here, let’s break the whole thing down this way:
BERNIE MADOFF - VOLUNTARILY takes money from investors with the promise that THEIR money will be re-invested and made available to them later.
SOCIAL SECURITY – FORCEABLY takes money from wage earners with the promise that THEIR money will be re-invested in a "Trust Fund" and made available to them later.
BERNIE MADOFF - Instead of investing the PEOPLE’S money, Madoff spends it on nice homes in the Hamptons and on luxurious yachts.
SOCIAL SECURITY - Instead of depositing the PEOPLE’S money in a Trust Fund, as promised, the politicians use it for general spending and vote buying.
BERNIE MADOFF - When the time comes to pay the original investors back Madoff simply uses some of the new funds from newer investors to pay back the older investors.
SOCIAL SECURITY - When benefits for older investors become due, the politicians pay them with money taken from younger and newer wage earners and then pass it on to the older ones, after their appropriate "grease", of course.
BERNIE MADOFF - When word gets out about Madoff's scheme, all hell breaks loose. New investors refuse to give him any more money.
SOCIAL SECURITY - When Social Security runs out of money, they simply FORCE the taxpayers to send them some more.
Now Ol’ Bernie Madoff is in jail, and the crooked politicians, who FORCE us to pay into their schemes, with our hard-earned dollars? Well, them boys and girls are whoopin’ and hollerin’ and havin’ a grand ol’ time SPENDING OUR MONEY on extravagant campaigns, neato jets, beach resorts, luxurious hotels, champagne, caviar, lobster, fancy cars, sporting events, parties, trains and boats and planes, graft, vote buying, vote riggin’ and on and on and on.
